Acer Palmatum: Dissectum

This variety of Japanese maple is relatively low growing and mound forming. In spring it produces attractive green feathery deep cut leaves, alongside small dark red flowers. Through the seasons the leaves turn to shades of yellow, orange and red heading into autumn. During autumn vivid red winged style fruits can also be seen. In general this plant likes a sheltered spot with partial or full sun.

Add a top-dressing of a well-balanced fertiliser around the base of a newly planted tree in late spring and keep well watered. No routine pruning is required, just remove any dead, damaged or crossing branches in late autumn or winter when they are fully dormant.
