Laurel has large glossy green leaves which deflect light in dark corners and untrimmed have beautiful scented white spray shaped flowers which attract bees and butterflies in the Spring. The flowers produce red berries which turn black later in the year a favourite with Blackbirds and other birds. Laurel hedge plants are fast growing , about 30cm per year and like any position in the garden and can reach a height of around five metres.
Laurel will grow in most conditions, even tolerating dry conditions. Laurel should be trimmed in late summer as growth begins to slow. Trim tight to avoid spreading width wise.
Laurel is a fast growing dense shrub perfect for garden boundaries. Their dark green leaves contrast well with other shrubs and flowers. Laurel is poisonous to livestock but provides shelter for smaller wildlife.
