The heart shaped leaves are dark green and glossy. They’ll be amongst the first to arrive in spring and last to leave in winter. During which time, yellow-brown male catkins in groups of 3 to 6 provide early pollen for insects. With pruning, it’s suitable for screening and is often used in avenue and street plantings, where its conical form will grow up to 10 x 5m. Suitable for most sites including damp ground, it’s a hardy tree that grows quickly.
